La Racineuse, situated near Mervans, is a small farmers village of about 150 inhabitants.
Here you can find amongst others a roman church from the 19th century, beautiful houses build in the typical Bressan way,
various pedestrian possibilities and possibilities for fishing in the small rivers Guyotte and Florence.
La Racineuse is situated in the Burgundian Bresse in the Saône-et-Loire department.
The Saône-et-Loire is often called Bourgogne du Sud. The Burgundian Bresse is in the east of the department and
forms the junction between the Franche-Comté, the Bourgogne, the Rhône-Alpes region and Switzerland.
The region is very suitable for the devotees of nature, authenticity and traditions and the many parks, protected wetlands
and nature reserve areas offer the visitors everything for a successful holiday.
Characteristic are the farmlands, the forests, the cultivation of cereals and the numerous lakes, rivers and canals,
which will certainly please the fishermen. 850 kilometres of signalised itineraries lead to all the richness of the southern Burgundy,
such as craftsmen, remarkable architecture, gastronomic sites and farms where the Bressan chicken are bred.
The Voie Verte and the Voie Bleue make a route of more than 117 kilometres for cyclists, pedestrians, roller-skaters and other
non-motorized users to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Bourgogne du Sud in a safe way without disturbance of motorised traffic.
The Route de la Bresse Bourguignonne, 102 kilometres in total, leads to various interesting sites for architecture, gastronomy, culture and ethnology in the region.
All the way along the route you can admire the typical houses of the Bresse with their half-timbered brick walls, castles build in various styles,
Romanesque churches, mills, tile factories, as well as the poultry breeding farms of the Bresse, artisans and craftsmen and local producers.
For the early risers there is the famous market for animals (mainly poultry) and fresh products in Louhans, the capital of the Burgundian Bresse.
This market is each week on Monday morning and inevitable for the region. Strolling the animal market is a unique experience.
Louhans is a historical small village with a main street from the 15th century which consists of 157 arcades with shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
The Ecomuseum in Pierre-de-Bresse leads the curious and interested visitor through a castle-museum dedicated to the natural and historical treasures of the Burgundian Bresse.
It goes without saying that the Burgundian Bresse cannot be described without mentioning the gastronomic temptations, symbolized by the white chicken with the blue legs.
The Bressan chicken has an official AOC-certification (controlled designation of origin) and is served to the gourmands as "poulet, poularde or chapon de Bresse".
But not only the Bressan chicken, the region is also well known for its escargots, frogs legs, Boeuf Bourguignon, Charolais meat, gougeres and fruitcakes and
all of this of course accompanied by excellent wines of the Côte Chalonnaise, Côte Mâconnaise and the Côte d'Or.
Of course there are many other possibilities for entertainment. Whether sports or cultural activities, shopping or just simply have a drink on a terrace, there are plenty of possibilities.
We have several leaflets and brochures available in which you can find many ideas.
How about sailing in a hot-air balloon, parasailing, horse riding, quad riding, visit museums and castles, shopping, stroll along the many cosy French markets and brocantes (flea-markets).
Also amusement parks and zoos are well represented in the region. Or enjoy wine-tastings in the winecellars of the winegrowers.
Chalon sur Saône is a lovely village for shopping and has a cosy market in the town center, located around the Saint-Vincent cathedral.
The pleasant city Lyon, which certainly can compete with Paris for shopping and atmosphere, can be reached very quickly.
The old town of Lyon is worth a visit and here you will find many restaurants with the traditional cuisine of Lyon.
Also nearby are Mâcon, Dijon, Beaune, Dole, Lons le Saunier and the vineyards of the Jura.
In brief: a region where you do not have to be bored!
